Support measures

We’ve announced measures to provide financial assistance and support to help communities affected by the floods in New South Wales and Queensland.

We’ve donated an initial $1 million to the appeal effort, with the money to be used primarily to support community groups within the flood-impacted regions.

Support will be made available through our recovery grants program, which provided millions of dollars of assistance to?bushfire-affected areas in 2020.

Grants of $5,000 are now available to support schools to replace damaged and lost equipment as part of a $250,000 cash package under our School Recovery Grants program. Grants are open to primary and secondary schools, as well as Parents and Citizen Associations (P&Cs) and Parents and Friends Associations (P&Fs) in flood-affected regions.

What are the eligibility requirements?

To be eligible to apply for a School Recovery Grant, each applicant must:

  • Be a school or P&C/P&F based in a flood-affected area (individuals and businesses aren’t eligible to apply);
  • Need to replace or repair facilities/property which was lost or damaged by flood during the 2021 flood season and isn’t likely to be covered by insurance; or

    Want to implement community activities that aim to strengthen social connectedness, emotional wellbeing and assist school communities to recover from the recent floods;
  • Be able to identify how their proposed activity or the repair or replacement of the facilities or property will benefit the school;
  • Not be implementing projects with any political objectives; and
  • Hold a current bank account in Australia in its name.

Applications open 29 March 2021

Community support

We’re also giving $50,000 to Thread Together, a charity organisation and one of our Next Chapter partners.

This donation will ensure the organisation can continue its support to other frontline agencies in impacted communities, and provide new clothes to people in need. Thread Together has already delivered and dispatched more than 5,000 units of clothing to-date.

Donations

We've launched the CanGive functionality in the CommBank app, enabling our customers to donate to the 2021 Flood Relief Appeal.

Donations can also be made to the NSW Red Cross Flood Appeal at all Commonwealth Bank branches.

CBA will match dollar-for-dollar any funds donated by our customers through the CommBank app and at our branches across the country.
